Future-proofing Higher Education: Developing and recognising teachers to support learning in a globally-connected world

Ian Hall, Advance HE, Room tbc

21st century challenges, such as climate change, sustainability, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, require universities to produce graduates that are able to tame these problems. Yet developing these graduates requires effective higher education teachers/lecturers, and in many countries there is a much stronger focus in universities on research rather than teaching. This interactive workshop explores approaches to supporting and recognising teachers in higher education, based on Advance HE’s experience working in over twenty different countries, and explores the Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education, which.

The workshop is intended for staff in a variety of roles, including senior staff responsible for leading or managing teaching and learning (Rectors, Vice Rectors, Chancellors, Deputy/Pro Vice Chancellors and Deans), programme and course leaders, teachers in universities and clinical settings, and those involved in supporting student learning (e.g. clinical educators, teaching assistants, and other professional staff).
